THE RULES
Qualifications
1) Players must be under the appropriate age as at 1 September 2008.
2) A player can only play for one team in a season. Any team breaking these rules will be fine £5 and deemed to have been bowled out for 0. Their opponents will be awarded the two points.
Laws
The laws of cricket will apply, with exception of the following:
1) Teams will consist of six players.
2) Matches will be played on a pairs cricket basis, with 12 overs per side.
3) Each pair will bat for 4 x 6 ball overs.
4) The team score starts at 200.
5) 6 runs will deducted for each wicket lost.
6) No bowler may bowl more than 3 overs.
7) All players must wear the normal accepted cricket clothing and gear. This includes having a wicket keeper, who shall wear gloves and pads. All batsmen and wicket keepers must wear helmets.
8) The batsmen shall change ends at the end of each over, and every time a wicket is lost.
9) The laws relating to wides shall be strictly interpreted, especially bowling outside the leg stump. A wide shall count as 3 runs, plus any runs scored. No extra ball shall be bowled except in the 12th over. The batsman can be out stumped off a wide delivery.
10) A “No Ball” will be called if the ball bounces in front of the orange line on the dark green playing mat.
Note
Both teams must have at least 5 players to constitute a game. If a team does only have 5 players then the third batting pair will consist of the player who has not yet batted plus the lowest scorer (taking into account wickets lost) from the first pair.
Scoring
1) A ball hitting the boundary wall behind the bowler, without touching another wall first, will score 8 runs if it touches the floor and 4 runs if it does not bounce first.
2) If the ball hits a side wall, the back wall, or the ceiling, 1 run is scored. Each time the batsmen complete a run, 3 runs are scored. Therefore if the ball hits a wall and the batsmen complete a run, a total of 4 runs are scored.
3) The scoring for byes and leg byes is the same as above.
4) “No Balls” will count as 3 runs, plus any runs that are scored off the delivery. No additional ball will be bowled, apart from in the 12th over. The ball is still live and additional runs can be scored.
5) A Wide ball will count as 3 runs, plus any runs that are scored off the delivery. No additional ball will be bowled, apart from in the 12th over. The ball is still live and additional runs can be scored.
6) An overthrow hitting any wall will count as 1 extra run.
7) Any ball lodged in the netting for more than 5 seconds (in the opinion of the umpire) shall be called dead and count as 1 run.
Methods of Dismissal
Apart from the normal laws of cricket, the following shall apply:
1) The batsman may be caught of any wall (except the boundary wall), and the ceiling provided the ball has not touched the floor.
General
1) Indoor balls and the score sheets will be provided by the centre.
2) Each team needs to provide a scorer. The league will try to provide umpires, but this is not guaranteed.
3) Please leave the completed score sheets and match ball at the office, at the end of the game together with your £21 match fee.
4) The winning team will receive 2 points.
5) If matches are tied, the team losing the least number of wickets will be the winners.
6) Any team not ready to start on time shall forfeit the choice of innings.
